Comments

We made it out in the Tony Grove area today and found very sensitive slabs on northern aspects. We had five 30 feet wide slabs break out on us on steep slopes. The 4-8 inch deep slabs were on short steep slopes and only ran 50 – 100 feet. The shallow slabs were likely caused by recent wind but the slabs were very soft and wind loading was not evident, likely covered by a little bit of snow yesterday.

South and east facing slopes were not as sensitive for slab avalanches but there was still significant sluffing on steep slopes. The sun started to affect the south facing slopes and although they rode well today, I would expect a sun crust on them tomorrow.

Many upper elevation slopes are now wind jacked but away from the upper ridge lines the snow is still holding pretty well.
