Comments
The skies were still mostly cloudy with light snowfall from around 12-2pm at the top of guardsman pass. It was colder than expected with a light but persistent wind that felt more bitter lower than higher. The snow surface was spongy and supportable for walking and helpfully fast for schussing across what turned out to be mostly a four wheel drive cross country ski. I looked at the North East bowl of 10420 where there were a few ski tricks, what looked like thin cover, but no high marks. It looked nice and not wind impacted.
My pit was on a NW facing slope, but might behave more like a North Facing slope. I was surprised to find the crust at the bottom, but more surprised that my ECT fractured and propagated on one tap on a layer I did not detect during excavation or running my saw through. There was no signs of instability as I tromped across the slope.
