Wind Crust
Snow Characteristics Comments
Surface was generally 3-6" of powder (mixture of dendrites/DF, wind blown particles, and SH/faceting particles) sitting on a supportable crust especially in protected locations. Open areas had more variable surface conditions and crusts. SW and W aspects had thinner less supportable crust (about 1cm thick) under the new snow from yesterday. Aspects with a North tilt and very protected slopes lacked the crust, and aspects with an east tilt had some hard crust, cornice, and slab formation near ridge lines in exposed areas including mid elevations. By the end of the day, solar aspects were generally hot pow on a supportable crust, while polar aspects stayed cold and dry.
Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
