Comments
Spent the afternoon making a horseshoe tour of Home Run Bowl, sampling the goods on aspects North North East, South and East. Riding conditions were excellent on North North East and East, with dry mid-winter powder abundant on low-angle protected slopes from 9300 down to 8600. However, even just a few degrees of South was enough to materially dampen and/or crust the surface. There were many long running surface sluffs on steep North through East aspects in the area, some entraining a significant amount of storm snow but none stepping down to the PWL. No other signs of instability were noted although I did see a smaller cornice collapse on the North side of Rip's Ridge with some debris washing into the trees and moving some storm snow around at roughly 9100. Folks stepped out on Sound of Music, Cinders and a couple high East-facing slopes at the head of Millcreek. Looked like they must have been handing out free beer and lottery tickets at Red Pine Lake for the number of lucky skiers barreling down Squaretop to get there.
