We dug on a SE aspect at upper elevations. The snow depths at this elevation are very driven by wind. We dug two pits next to each other, one shallower and one more loaded. We found similar structure with old relatively weaker snow at the ground and a dense 1F to P slab above. While the snow at the ground was F, rounding facets, we found many percolation columns in this layer. You could break a perc column and actively see water moving from the top of it. Due to the pooling of ice/water on top of this layer it was very difficult to isolate columns for tests in our pits. Over all there seemed to be lots of moist snow through out the snowpack.
There is a mixed bag of snow at the upper elevations. Overall travel is very easy despite many crusts. The more exposed areas are still white, but have been effected by the various winds over the last number of days.
Photos below:
1) Perc columns
2) Snow moving on an ENE face.
3) SE snow pit
4) Settlement, sun, and wind effect in the alpine.
5) shallow SE snowpit
6) Interesting SE Crust
