The Uintas experienced a significant avy cycle, but many paths rapidly filled in and it's hard to detect whether they ran or not.
So... I spent the day stomping around upper elevation, leeward terrain in the wind zone, I knew avalanched during the height of the big Jan. 14th storm. I wanted to see how deep or shallow those starting zones are and if they have the potential to roar back to life in the future when winter returns.
Some common themes-.
Starting zones needed to be in the wind zone to really connect the dots
Current HS in terrain that avalanched averages approx 100 cm.
I think most paths failed on facets above the Nov. 16th raincrust and left behind a faceted junkshow that's about 30 cm in depth with a strong, 70 cm storm slab (1 fing to 1 fing +) resting on top.
