At upper elevations ridges, the snow was firm from wind scouring, with facets underneath that would allow your skis to punch through. We dropped into Neeley Basin about 50-100 ft and found that was still firm and affected by past winds. We observed skiers hitting a more NW aspect from afar who were looking to get some softer turns in.
It was a beautiful sunny day for our third day of the AIARE 1 course, no clouds in sight, that softened up the solar aspects and made for good exit skiing back to the cars.
Dug a pit (HS 68 cm) on a NE aspect @ 9500' just to look at the layers and found a right side up snow pack until 21cm where the thick layer of larger facets live all the way to the ground. 2-4mm facets.
