Problem #1 Comments
A crust from last weekends warm up at the lower elevations (7800-9000ft) made new snowfall easy to get moving on any 35+degree rollovers. South facing slopes were most easy to get moving, but still frequent on all other slopes, except east facing which we did not travel through. Sluff was manageable in the sheltered terrain, but expected to become less manageable as the snow keeps coming.

Finding season best turns in very wind sheltered low elevation terrain today gave us the chance to check out the new snowpack around the compass. We found the new snow was easy to get moving, but not traveling far when breaking off our skin track or rollovers. I attribute this to the fact we were at low elevation and not traveling in the wind zone. The melt freeze crust underneath would make for new snow slides in steeper, more consequential terrain run fast and long with the amounts that piled up last night and today. Found tracks last evening of a moose that had fallen into a tree well and struggled to get out...a good reminder of hazards that become more dangerous with big storms, even if the sluff feels manageable.
