Went to Aspen Grove to put up our Trailhead sign today and ventured out for a short walk to stretch the legs and see what snow conditions were like in the area. A couple other folks were out braving the incoming cold temps from a northerly wind.
Travel was from 7,000 to 8,500ft. Slopes with a southern aspect were crunchy and frozen stiff, some even shiny. North took a beating from the north wind, revealing inverted ski tracks.
I found a couple old wet slides on a few low elevation south slopes (last week?) and spotted a single 1-2ft crown on NE at about 8,600ft off toward the UFO Bowls. It appeared to be a handful of days old (no pic, too cold).
had good visibility on the tour and my drive and only noted maybe a touch of debris below one of the eastern most ice climbs in Provo Canyon.
Overall, low danger for the elevation I traveled in.
Photo 1: Inverted ski tracks from wind scouring. One rider hunted for a narrow band of soft snow.
Photo 2: Old wet above the closed summer road
Photo 3: A second small wet avalanche
