Comments
Approaching the lower apron of superior, I traversed to the west to get to some fresh snow and attempt a small rock drop. As I lined up above the small drop the snow under me broke loose and I was swept off my feet. I road over the rock with my butt and have a massive bruise to show for it. I was carried uncontrollably for maybe 50 feet past the rock drop and buried in loose soft snow up to my shoulders. I was able to wiggle out myself and limp down to the bottom. I'm not exactly sure if this would be considered a storm slab or sluff, it came down from above me so I guess you'd call it a slab.
takeaways - be extra cautious with new snow. Even a harmless looking rock drop can end your day.
the incident occurred on the small triangular rock outcrop near the bottom of the photo. If you look close you can see part of my track was taken out.
