Went out today intending to get an idea of what the surface hoar was looking like. I noticed less surface hoar in prov than when I was there on 11/14. Certainly there was still noticeable surface hoar in open areas, but the crystals were notably smaller than I had observed earlier in the calm dry spell. The largest most advanced surface hoar I saw today was probably crystals roughly ~1cm, which is notably smaller than crystals I was observing earlier which were up to 4-5cm in size.
That being said, with or without surface hoar, faceted snow abounds and is still cause for plenty of concern.
By the time we were leaving around ~2PM snow was really picking up, though not too much actual accumulation had occurred yet.
