Decreasing Danger
I got up to today and found 14 inches of new light snow above 9500ft. While the northside of the compass had plenty of old prior to the storm the southside was dirt. I remote triggered several small pocket slides from the ridgeline into the northside that ran within the new snow but there was too much resistence so they didn't go very far. I dug on the northside above 10K and found just under 1 meter of snow with lots of facets just below the new snow. The snow was still hard at the ground interface. Even though my ECTs failed to produce any results I didn't jump into anyting on the northside above 20 degrees. Skiing was sketchy on the south half of the compass thanks to the new light snow and lack of snow pack prior to the storm. If you can find grassy low angle north slopes and are willing to take out your good fat skis on the shallow snow pack there are turns to be made. Unfortunetly snowmobile riding is limited to the road. Recent winds have also dropped lots of trees and in places are blocking the road.
