Poor Snowpack Structure
Comments
Took a few laps in Cardiac Bowl this morning. Conditions were two inches of new snow on breakable wind board. ...kinda felt like showing up to a Thanksgiving dinner and all they are serving is green bean casserole. Take what you can get at this point.
The snow pack structure is quite a bit better in upper Cardiff than where I was skiing in Days and Silver fork yesterday but definitely has some weak spots. The primary area of concern is just below the rock bands in Cardiac Bowl. Spots where the snow pack is thin are quite faceted. Just above the skin track on the lookers left side of the bowl was the worst I saw.
Where the snow pack is deeper is much better but still has weak snow near the mid pack crust. I've included a photo of a pit I dug in a deeper snow pack area and a photo showing where I observed VERY faceted snow. At this point it's not really a problem, but once we start getting more snow it will be a major problem.
