Came across a few older small but spooky avalanches in short sections of north facing trees at the tree line. Crowns were narrow and there wasn't enough of a slope for a lot of snow to get moving, yet the snow debris piled up against the trees was significant. Photo of North facing chute, with a small crown down to the dirt and snow piled below. Photos of older wind slabs with on South facing aspects, before Saturdays storm that added 4-6 inches and a lot more S-SW wind!
Comments
Two pits were dug. Inconclusive granular details aside, the important results are that snow pack is visibly shallow and weak on wind exposed north facing aspects, instabilities exist, and this is not the same snow pack that we are so generously provided "the solutions manual" for in the Wasatch. Because our math isn't that great, low angle terrain was ridden.
