Comments
First visit to NN Bowl this year and found exactly what I was expecting, a mostly unsupportable snow pack, which is 1.5 to 2ft deep. This bowl is due N facing, extremely shady and doesn't receive much wind which causes it to facet out more rapidly than most slopes. The whole pack is faceted out to the ground causing sandboxing on the up and facet sluffs that long run distances. Not a problem now but first time we get a decent load it's bound to avalanche to the ground. NN Bowl is notorious for this kind of set up and I haven't seen any other slopes that are this faceted in my travels this season. The set up for the N facing slopes on the PC Ridgeline is not looking good at all for future loads but it's gonna have to snow first.
photos: surface hoar, facet sluffs and a video of the loose faceted snow.
