Rain/snow line at 6500'. A few 'sunbreaks' in mid-afternoon but didn't last long. Noted plumes along Cardiac Ridge but the east end of the Cottonwood ridgeline was more wind-protected.

Snow Characteristics Comments
Mostly bottom-feeding on old melt freeze crusts on all aspects. Low angle smooth terrain is the best bet. Crusts slippery; it has been awhile since I booted up the Flag ridge.
4-8" of storm(s) snow in the upper elevations. MF crusts exist even on northerlies up to and above 10,500' from last week's warm-up.
Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
Triggered a couple mostly harmless sluffs and no red flags in my travels today...though would imagine pockets of shallow wind drifts could be triggered in the more wind-exposed terrain.

Comments
-Triggered a couple very minor sluffs in the new snow 3" deep that ran on old windboard or within the new snow. These on very steep slopes and ran perhaps 300' and did not entrain much snow. These would be hazardous only in confined terrain or if carried over terrain/traps.
-5-10cm of fist hardness rounding facets - pretty weak actually - found beneath last week's mf crust on high north; enhanced no doubt by the cold snap the past few days and the crust's structural impediment perhaps for vapor transfer. These facets are "bridged" thus far by an inch thick mf crust at 10,200'...presumably thicker as you drop in elevation; thinner above. Should be noted if anticipating a signif. loading event.
-Cornices should still be given wide berth; red line indicates a minimum of margin for travel.
Probably trending toward Moderate if higher end of expected snow falls...with wind.
