Snow Characteristics Comments
Slide for life conditions on the Hogum 200. I expected it to be bad but not that bad. Came very close to down-climbing the entire run. The windward side (west) from the last cycle had a rain/rime crust plastered to it that made turning conditions impossible. From a distance, it looked great but once on it it was scary. Weak snow noted above the crust. Found the Rain/ Rime crust everywhere today except for the upper 400-500 feet of the hypodermic needle and the first 500 feet of coalpit. It was windblown (good skiing) in those areas so maybe the crust was further down. Weak snow noted above and below this crust in Maybird, Hogum, and Coalpit up to 10,500ft.

Problem #1 Comments
Wind drifted snow in the alpine terrain that could still be sensitive to the weight of a skier. Slide for life conditions on the windward slopes that got plastered with rain/rime crust and is supportable to the weight of a skier. Do people seem to be finding this on the western half of the range? Speaking with some folks today skiing in upper big and little (more east) they were not finding the crust. Interested to hear more and continue to track this crust before our next system rolls in.
