Comments
Headed up Butler today and skied steep E and W facing. The main activity was sluffing in steeper terrain once again. The bigger and more powerful sluffs were on the continuously steep W facing terrain above Scary Gully. Got caught by one of these larger sluffs at the end of the day, put about 6ft of snow on the up track in the Guly and took me for a small ride, no big deal but this is what the new snow is going to land on, light density snow resting on a slippery bed surface in most terrain, seems primed to avalanching with added load. In some of the mid elevation thinner snowpack areas the whole snow pack is rotten and not cohesive and will not adjust well to a load, especially of the wind blows and transports snow as forecasted.
photos: sluffing on the west facing and me standing knee deep in the gully after getting sluffed.
With snow and wind in the forecast for tomorrow I would suspect we will hit considerable sometime during the day.
