Today we traveled from Upper Little Cottonwood Canyon through Days Fork and exited out Big Cottonwood Canyon. It was awesome to see so many people enjoying the new snow. Most all of the steep northwest, north and northeast facing lines in upper Little Cottonwood were ridden without any issues.
We rode many steep 38° slopes today and only noted minor sluffing within the new snow. With that being said - we still rode one at a time and rode from safe point to safe point keeping an eye on each other. At the top of the steeper sections we through in a slope cut for good measure.
One member in the group today on a lower elevation east facing (40° degree) slope got tangled up in a minor wet loose slide and was knocked off balance and took a tumble. This was a very minor slide, but a good reminder that in very aggressive terrain it could of been worse.
One party in upper Two Dogs did trigger a small soft slab avalanche that was roughly 8-10" deep and 75' wide. Their partners were watching and yelled avalanche and the skier cut out to the side and watched it from a safe spot. Pic attached.
Overall very good stability in Upper Little Cottonwood canyon. The sun did take it's toll on many of the sunlit slopes and tomorrow you can expect to find a crust that will likely soften with day time heating. Northwest, north and northeast facing lines above about 8500' in elevation stayed cold and dry.
