A real mixed bag today. Rain down at 7K in the morning, mank snow up to about 8K, wide spread wind scouring up high in the exposed south facing terrain with melt-freeze crusts up to 3 cm thick. Sheltered terrain holds nice settled medium density snow. While approaching Hoyt Peak I triggered this cornice fall. I tried to get a good look at the Hoyt Peak north facing cornice but it is so large there was no way to get eyes on it without descending the NW ridgeline which I didn't have time for. I have not seen the north face of Hoyt slide this year, only the NW flank east facing aspect. The other day I observed some of the deepest snow I've seen on the north face. Typically the north face slides multiple times each season limiting the depth of each slide. That's not the case this year opening the door for a climax slide. Visibility was too low and I ran out of time to get eyes on it. Maybe tomorrow.
