I read Evelyn's observation from Saturday and saw that she mentioned "rimed" surface hoar at the lower elevations. I've been seeing this too, and thought I'd try to photograph some. The images below are from approx. 5600' in the Ogden Valley on a shady aspect. The small bubbles or circles on the surface hoar crystal are light riming.
I recently learned some new photography techniques and thought I'd include a video link to a 3-D rendering of these surface hoar crystals. I was pretty excited to see the texture of these surface hoar crystals up close for the first time. The basal "stem" where the crystal started growing is quite obvious in the first video.

On the second image below, I believe the riming is the dark cluster of snow to the right of the surface hoar (I'm pretty sure this was the top based on the crystal shape). I saw a lot of surface hoar "capped" by what looked like rime, likely from the cold fog in the inversion over the weekend.
The warm temps today created a thin melt/freeze layer on sunny aspects, partially melting the surface hoar, at least at the lower elevations.
