Todays ski conditions were reminiscent of an east coast powder day. 4-6" of dense snow fell yesterday giving the snow a much needed refresh. We skied North facing trees into Horse Creek and found soft snow that skied kind of like spreadable butter. Once in Horse Creek we took a lap on a southwest facing slope that had the same "butter" snow with a stout melt freeze crust below.
It sounded like wind slabs were isolated to near ridge tops today. I would be cautious of the lee side of exposed ridges and terrain features near or above tree line.
With yesterdays new snow storm slabs were the other problem of concern for today. We skied some steep north facing trees and were unable to get any reaction out of the snow. Barely any sluff running out of your turns. It just stuck to the snow surface downslope.
