Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
New Snow
Problem #1 Comments

Steep protected North facing slopes were showing some surface sluffing entraining ~20cm surface snow. Starting to see isolated cracking that was not traveling far from skis. Stability tests showed results on NSF that formed before the beginning of the recent storm cycle beginning on last Thursday. Not seeing full propagation in tests. Seems that there isn't quite enough of a load to activate the buried NSF weak layer. This layer seems to be healing in areas with a deeper pack (areas that didn't slide during the Christmas cycle) but could become active with new load from forecasted storm or a wind load.

Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Problem #2 Comments

Still seeing depth hoar in deeper areas, although this seems to be healing and gaining strength. Areas that did slide during the Christmas cycle are shallow and weak and will continue to be a concern with an additional load.
