Weather Comments
bluebird morning, but winds have been at work, snow damaged all except for very sheltered terrain, great visibility, the avalanche carnage is everywhere, after a good look around and disucssion we have decided that was the most active cycle we can remember on the Wasatch Plateau, with most the activity occuring Fri, Sat, Sunday from the looks of things

Snow Characteristics Comments

new coat of paint, low density, but has been moving around. sun/temp crusts underneath new snow, along with assorted windboard, and occasional unexplained hole of facets not necessarily next to trees or anything else. Cornices are huge, have been relieving themselves, but hands down the biggest attention getter (other that the epic snomobile released slide Brett reported last weekend) were all the treed slopes that had run during the cycle, in places we have never seen before, above some of the cabins along the road to Electric Lake. Ridge after ridge ENE facing, around 9000', leaving crowns up into less steep terrain, and again, did we mention in trees? all similar to the area that the very unfortunate fatality occurred in, but on less steep terrain. If we had taken pictures eventually you would become bored out of your skulls. Have to admit, skiing has improved but the more open slopes still harbor breakable crusts.

Red Flags Comments
while pockety in nature, some new wind slabs are out there, and even after digging another deep whole to look at entire pack structure, cannot rid ourselves of nagging feelings of doom, enough to keep us on gentle terrain

Persistent Weak Layer
Problem #1 Comments

new snow wind slabs will quickly heal themselves, but winds are reaching almost all terrain and side loading, etc. Cornices are huge and not to be trusted

Problem #2 Comments

electric lake bowl proper not only ran as Steve Mower reported last Sunday, but has run again, just not as far, could not tell if 3' + crown was part of repeater or original slide. Everything in electric lake bowl area has run, from lookers right of main bowl to far lookers left through the trees. the repeater seems to be hangfire that popped out at the first steep breakover and well above rock/cliff band 2/3's the way down. While not all connected, every steep windloaded slope around the bowl east has also run, but lacks enough steepness to get beyond the first bench and treeline.

Comments

big thick snow pack where we dug today, we did not do ECT because it would likely withstand more than us beating on it. Even the facets are chaining and getting much stronger.

Electric Lake Bowl, avi's 1 and 2, bigger earlier slide outlined in red and newer hangfire? in green. First slide ran down gully behind Steve for quite a ways as Steve Mower reported, but #2 was much newer and covered old snomobile tracks in one area.

we entered on old bed surface to ski lower angle terrain
