Snow Characteristics Comments

Freezing rain blanketed these region on 12/23/13 followed overnight by 1-2" of graupel. The crust increased in vigor with increasing elevation. At mid elevation, the snow surface was a patchwork of shiny crust and dull dense wind-blown graupel and rime.

No collapsing or cracking noted.

Weak snow structure still prevails. I sunk to my right hip when I stepped out of my skis to dig a quick pit.

Quick pit - 25 degree NE open slope just above the upper weather station. -5 degrees C air temp

CT =8 Q2 @ 2" (weak new snow just below the rain crust)
