Weather Comments
Winds were calm below approximately 10,000', but picked up quickly above that, blowing in the 20s from the east and north east. Were blowing hard enough to move around plenty of snow and although we were skinning mostly on the windward side of things, some shallow drifts were present by late morning that would crack out easily around your skis. High W and SW leeward slopes likely will have a few sensitive drifts in the morning.

Snow Characteristics Comments
The continued cold temps and clouds have preserved perfect low density snow, now capped by a thin layer of surface hoar that was present in all open areas from the trailhead to 10,000'.

Comments

Found a pretty stable snowpack on north facing terrain at 9,600' . Late November facets and early December rain crusts were hard to find visually and appear to have healed nicely as they would not produce shears in any stability tests. In fact the only shears I could get were approximately a meter down on old depth hoar, which is overlain by a stout rain crust. CT22Q2. ECTX (could only get a column in an ECT to fail after 4 hard kicks, aka the AK boot drop). So although bit spooky to still have some obvious junk at the bottom, also appears to be a non-player and you could see rounding of the approx 2mm squares. Attached a photo in addition to the pit profile. Attention will be on the weakening surface in the future.

Also of note were 2 recent glides in the area (submitted separately).
