I went to Alta today to look at the old snow and pick up some snow temperature sensors. There is not much old snow left below 9000 feet. There is not enough snow to slide back down on to the bottom of the ski resort.

While there is quite a bit of snow on northerly aspects above 9000 feet, most of it is sun crusted or wind crusted with a few spots that have loose sugary faceted snow. These areas of loose week snow probably won't play much of a role after it gets buried with new snow but as always we should be aware that there is something to pay attention to.
