Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Wind Drifted Snow
Problem #1 Comments
We observed moderate to strong winds along the Ridgeline today, with a surprising amount of snow being transported from the southerlies and deposited on Northerly aspects. Given the temperatures we've had recently, we had expected snow transport to be more difficult than we observed, and were surprised to find pockets of shallow, touchy, soft wind slabs at and near Ridgeline on N slopes. We were able to intentionally trigger a D0.5 soft slab via ski cuy near the ridgeline (seperate obs submitted), as well as an unintentionally triggered D1 hard slab further off the ridgeline (seperate obs submitted)
Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Wet Snow
Problem #2 Comments
By the time we made our exit, the mid and low elevation bands had softened their breakable crust that we had observed at the start of our travels. By noon it was easy to convince the wet snow under our skis and boards to accumulate and move down hill, though no new natural wet activity was noted throughput our day.
Comments
A picture added of some snow transport near Ridgeline. I caught the least impressive moment, and our group had been standing there for a few minutes watching the snow be transported in an impressive fashion.
