Comments
I started at the Trans LaSal trailhead becuse the road above looked too risky. I made my way to the Laurel Highway where there was 4-5 inches of new snow from overnight and this morning. The new snow was a mix of grauppel and rimed dendrites. The skintrack from yesterday was hard to follow with the new snow and was totally buried in places by wind transported snow.
In sheltered areas, I experienced 3 very large rolling collapses and several smaller collapses. In areas exposed to south and west winds, it was evident that strongs winds had stripped or compacted the snow surface before last night's new snow.
While skiing down the North Woods I noticed cracking through the snow surface. I saw the cracks down slope from me and there were no other tracks close by. They might have initiated remotley from me skiing or they might have initiated from the weight of new snow. The area did not appear to be wind loaded.
