Snow Characteristics Comments
The snow has been stacking up nicely on the north slope with 5-6" at the trailhead this morning and a solid foot plus around 9,000'. The cold light density snow is making for some great riding and turning and the coverage has really improved-finally feels like winter!
Red Flags
Red Flags Comments
In my travels today I did not observe any red flags, I spent the day in the sun on south facing terrain and just a few wind drifts from the north winds.
Avalanche Problem #1
Problem
Wind Drifted Snow
Trend
Decreasing Danger
Problem #1 Comments
Went with wind drifted snow today as the avalanche problem, the low density did not seem to affect the snow pack much from what I observed. I did have a couple small wind drifts collapse as I traveled over them, but a minor issue.
Avalanche Problem #2
Problem
Persistent Weak Layer
Trend
Same
Problem #2 Comments
I did not spend any time on north facing terrain, but I did look into Gold Hill Basin and did not observe any new or old snow issues. Not sure if the new low density snow was enough to stress any buried weak layers?
Comments
Spent the day on the south side of Gold Hill and there was great snow conditions with a solid foot plus of new cold low density snow. The sun did appear for a couple hours mid morning, then broken skies, light snow showers and calm winds.
Nice day to be out with fresh snow and lots of easy going terrain.
