We went for a walk in easy terrain to check out conditions. My partner and I hadn't toured since pre-season Alta laps due to ongoing poor conditions and a strong desire to keep our knees.
Condiditons were as expected all around (forecast was a "high" rating) with good riding snow, easy trail breaking on the way up and no real red flags except the expected wind loading depth on the lee side on the uphill.
As we transitioned to ski the low angle terrain in little willow, my partner hopped his splitboard and the snowpack I was standing on ~5ft away from him collapsed and I felt myself sink. He commented he thought it was far away, but I told him it was right under me. We then skied down one at a time, communicating via radio despite it being low angle. Two more times, on the way down, in more open meadows, I heard but did not see or feel collapsing. I suspect this widespread pwl will continue for some time and the forecast will remain high to considerable across many aspects for some time.
