We went up to the PC ridgeline to get some low angle - and scrubby - south facing turns and peek over at the big north facing bowls to see those that avalanched and those that didn't. In USA Bowl we dug a coupla quick handpits: one south facing and one a bit more west. On the south facing we were a little surprised to see a weak layer about 16" down and got a slab to break off cleanly on that layer relatively easily. On the west facing there was again a slab that broke off on the facets near the ground. Going out we thought that generally the avy danger was somewhat limited to the house of cards on the north facing only since so much of the south facing had melted out, but with all the snow we got the southerlies are filling in and according to what we saw there's some potentially-concerning layering going on there. With a decent shot of heavy snow coming in Wednesday night maybe that could load up? Basically, it may not be prudent to simply assume south facing is good to go; this past cycle was complicated on the south sides too.
The sun didn't have any effect on the low angle south facing with the low sun angle and cold temps of the last coupla days, so now there's nice powder available for transport over to the north side (see pic; only moderate wind) and the reported slides were hard to see already, so those that slid are gonna get nicely reloaded and those that didn't are gonna load up even more. That said, we got no remote triggers ala the last couple of days. But still, more tiptoeing.
