Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

Brett Kobernik
Issued by Brett Kobernik on
Sunday morning, December 22, 2024
The overall avalanche danger on the Manti Skyline remains LOW.
While unlikely at this point, If you are getting into really steep radical high elevation terrain on slopes that face north through east, there's a slight chance you might trigger an old wind slab or drift.

Weather and Snow
Current Conditions: It was another gorgeous day on Saturday and I saw a number of people out on snowmobiles in Ephraim Canyon. Despite shallow conditions, the snowpack remains fairly supportable which makes travel on sleds fairly easy. Temperatures were again well into the 40s and stayed warm overnight only dipping into the 30s. A slight bump in wind from the southwest was hardly notable on Saturday unless you were on the most exposed peaks. It has slowed down again.
Mountain Weather: We'll see increasing clouds today with slightly cooler temperatures compared to Saturday. The wind will be from the west and generally light in speed. The next chance for measurable snow is early Christmas Day. It's a small storm but might produce 2 to 5 inches of new snow. There are a number of smaller events following.

Description
Avalanche conditions are pretty quiet out there right now. The average traveler has nothing to worry about today. The only people that might find trouble if they are looking are thrill seekers getting into extremely steep terrain along the upper ridgelines. North through east facing slopes with drifts and wind slabs would be the only place you might find trouble but even there, I'd say it is pretty unlikely.
