Comments
While prepping the snow pit loud whumpfing occurred. While checking grain type on weak layer from 79cm-83cm found remnants of buried surface hoar. Collapsing during prep could have been the surface hoar collapsing. Was a fairly quick and dirty snow pit during an AIARE lvl 1 so didn't spend much time going super deep into identifying every layer and grain type. Just those that would demonstrate strong over weak.

This is from the crystals in that 79-83cm layer. I wish we would have taken a good photo of the one still in tack surface hoar. It was 2cm at least. I tried locating another one but this was the best I could get.
