A great day of skiing at lower elevation. More new snow than expected was a pleasant surprise when we showed up. Under most surfaces, even N facing open slopes, there was a supportable crust. New snow was not bonding well to those crusts, and we produced large sluffs on nearly every pitch skied.
During our whole tour we had snowfall ranging from S1 to S2 with light variable winds all day.
We found a couple of small natural point releases during our travels, and triggered a small D1 avalanche in recently wind drifted snow on a small isolated rollover.
While investigating the snow, we were also able to easily find a dust layer produced before the most recent storm.
