Comments
We performed an extended column test at about 9500' on a west facing slope between the birthday chutes area and trichutes area. Snow structure was notable for 2-3' of storm snow on top of old sun crust. Snow underneath the sun crust was surgery, unconsolidated, and concerning for a potential weak layer as reported previously by the Utah Avalanche Center. Underneath the sugary layer, snow was well consolidated to the ground. The extended column test did not elicit a failure or propagation. The column did fail on the sugary layer when pulled with a shovel. We noted seven skier tracks on similar aspects in this area and did not note any avalanche activity.
