Comments
We skied the W face of Agassiz on the 16th. The snow was of two totally different varieties: where even the slightest windbreak existed on the south side of the shallow couloir we had heavy cream in the lee, well bonded to the surface below which made for nice turns. We observed no cracking, hollowness or movement of any kind in this snow, other than sluffs where the pitch was steep. On the other hand, as soon as you moved to the north side of the couloir you hit the pitted and weathered old bed surface which while not boilerplate was scratchy and no fun. So, even with a hurricane blowing up there we still found sheltered snow on that very exposed face pretty much from top to bottom. As we lost elevation we "lost the problem" and the snow became more uniformly creamy which made for excellent skiing.
