The whole snowpack has started to refreeze and lock up with the upper 10-20cm of the snow surface frozen and supportable. About 1" of new snow is bonded well to the warm, rough old snow surface. I haven't heard much talk of the brown dust layer that blew in on Tuesday but its now buried beneath 1"-3" of white snow. It's visible in snowpits and exists everywhere I skied in BCC from Silver Fork through Solitude, Brighton and along the PC ridgeline. When making turns through the white, the brown gets exposed and will hasten the already fast melting snow. Pic 1 of brown turns and Pic 2 shows lots of bare ground in Willow Heights.
The many faceted layers and crusts that we've been tracking for some weeks are still moist but the liquid water is now mostly found its home and a more solid refreeze might be upon us overnight Friday. Steep terrain is still suspect especially once daytime heating softens up the supportable surface above.
The evidence of the warm up is still plainly visible in piles of WL debris and otherworldly pinwheels.
