I got up above 10K today and was pleasantly surprised to find 8 inches of new snow. Now that's an average. The wind had its way with the snow and within the same 100 feet I found scoured terrain, pockets of small soft wind slabs and as much as 2 feet of light blower powder. The wind slabs were all very manageable and not very connected, however as seen in the pic below the wind slabs are cohesive and cracking. Also notice how deep my ski pole is in the snow that cracked. So, no doubt there are deep enough wind slabs out there that could knock you off your feet. Some of the steeper terrain that had sparse trees and received the north wind had dense loose and facets exposed. On the lee side, where terrain was steep enough to form cornices, the cornices had already fallen in manageable chunks.
