Snow Characteristics Comments
This observation is just a data point for the forecasters. We ventured a little farther north in the mid Ivory area than where most of the skiing took place yesterday, but we remained on low angle terrain. Although hasty pits at around 9800' revealed the weak faceted snow is definitely still down near the bottom of the snowpack, we just weren't getting settlement, whoomphing, or cracking. The snowpack where we were seemed to be 'talking' a little bit less today than in the past few days. I don't think this suggests steep slopes are any safer, but it's just a data point as the snowpack begins to adjust to the recent storm snow being added.
