      Comments
Went for a tour up to the North of the Twin chutes on desert peak with David.
On the approach to the chute we dug a couple of small hand pits and discovered a roughly right side up snow pack w/ supportable, but thin crust. As we proceeded up the chute the top layer of the snow became noticeably harder.
We stopped and dug a more proper pit at ~10.2k feet (about 2/3 of the way up). We discovered a 6-8 inch reactive wind slab on the top layer of the snow pack. This layer was extremly poorly bonded to loose snow underneath.
Snowpack consisted of this slab, about 1.5 - 2 feet of the loose 4 finger - fist density snow. We also found a thin (2-3 inch) but isolated melt freeze crust in places along the pit as well.
We safely skied out by sticking to the less windloaded, right side of the chute on the way out. We talked to two toehr parties on the way in that also bailed on the objective for the day.
