The snow is going away fast and the surface is pretty dusty in places, but we found pretty nice spring conditions.
Comments
Access to snow is good from Maple Bench, and by traveling avalanche debris from a large natural avalanche from February in Hells Canyon we were able to travel on snow to and from where we parked. The forest road on Maple Bench accessing the Coldwater Trailhead is mostly dry currently, but you should stay on the designated road and tread lightly.
We went up Hells Canyon to Stewart Pass on the Wellsville Crest just south of Pleasant View Point. The dusty snow has melted away early this season on many slopes and at lower elevations, but after a nice cold night we found pretty nice smooth spring conditions and stable snow (even in the afternoon).
