Beautiful day on Maple Mountiain, coming up from the Y-trail parking lot. The snow was surprisingly good (fresh, light powder), although we stayed on mostly Northern aspects and finished around noon, so the sun hadn't had a chance to warm things up. We didn't see any rapid warming on elevations above 7,5000 feet (although, again, we were in the morning shade much of the time), but things were melting real fast below that elevation.

We dug a quick pit at about 8,500 feet, and things looked as expected: about a foot of newish snow on top of a thin ice crust, with more solid layers going most of the rest of the way down.
