Comments
Didn't poke around in the snow too much, but a few relevant details. Snowfall began at noon and continued unabated through the duration of our time out (about 5:00pm). S1-S2, about 3" of new snow during that time. By the early evening when we departed, winds were picking up even at low elevations with gusts to moderate and blowing snow. Snow fall was mid density, falling on the existing very dense new snow. At the low elevations (ca. 6300-6700ft) where we were, travel was quite difficult due to the density inversion in the snowpack. Punching through the newer heavy snow and into the basement structure of facet/crust combinations was de rigeur. Rain/snow line was thankfully low, around 5600-5800ft.Given the snow we saw and the forecast for more, I have to imagine avalanche danger remains high for tomorrow as well.
