Comments
  • Surface hoar is already starting to grow after the most recent storm.
  • There was very little wind today, but the wind sure has been whipping the new snow around at the higher, exposed elevations! (Two photos attached.)
  • It looks like the recently reported "Small slab avalanche Northeast of the weather station" (1/23 by Jared Allen) was triggered by the same person who recently skied across the Ben Lomond Peak SNOTEL pillow/under the site sensors. (The tracks near the avalanche carried over from the SNOTEL site...) Naughty day for that skier. It is not a good move to ski through the SNOTEL sites. Firstly, because you could snag a ski on the fencing underneath, bad news. Secondly, because those sites collect important data used by water managers, avalanche forecasters, weather forecasters, and those of us out enjoying the backcountry. Skiing through the site could impact the data, or worse, cause problems with equipment.
