Comments
On north/north west facing slopes at about 9,000 ft and above, significant whumphing and collapsing sending shooting cracks 4-40+ ft out was observed. If the snow didn't already have cracks from a snowmobile track, a single skier step was enough to collapse the snow. This was not observed on south facing slopes, which had significantly less snowpack. It was observed less often in wind loaded areas with a deeper snowpack (suspect a heavier person or snowmobile may have still been able to trigger).
These observations were made from very shallow angle terrain. I did not observe any natural avalanche activity, and snowmobiles seemed to have avoided north facing aspects in the area as well.
