weed, pagnucco
Region

Location Name or Route
Steep Hollow, Crescent Lake Ridge
Snow Characteristics
Snow Surface Conditions
Faceted Loose
Rain-Rime Crust
Snow Characteristics Comments
We found inconsistent crusty snow surface conditions at upper elevations. Care is needed to avoid doing damage to your sled with the loose snow barely covering sharp rocks, and travel on skis was difficult due to the hard slick crust or sinking deeply into loose faceted snow (sandboxing).

Comments
We found the brittle rime-crust from last week in most places but the thickness was pretty variable. When we got off our sleds we would sink to the ground and we could plunge our ski poles through very loose snow to the ground everywhere. Very weak sugary or faceted snow near the ground is an incredibly widespread problem at all elevations and on slopes facing every direction that are currently snow covered.
