Comments
The north face snow composition is still very similar to Darce and Steve's Solstice report (four weeks ago!) from the same location. About 55cm total depth at 9,000', with smooth settled snow on top and complete sugar on the lowest 10cm. A hasty pit on east facing at 8,700' showed more complex layering than the north. A slight sun crust on the top, becoming thicker as the angle increased. Bottom 10cm is loose sugar, with two distinct crust layers above, sandwiching a 2-4 cm weak layer. Total 50cm at 8,700', 60cm at 9,100'
Boot penetration to the ground at every elevation and aspect.
Turns were fun and predictable, as long as you avoided the crust of tracks from previous days. One whumph felt and heard on very low angle north facing terrain close to the road. Our first trip to Electric Lake this winter, so interesting to see the extensive logging operations.
