Comments
While teaching today up in Grizzly Gulch, we noticed an avalanche on a NW facing slope at 9,200' running directly into the Gulch. It looked very fresh, but trigger type and timing are unclear. The bootpack to the looker's left of the slide was from a party that got lost this past Friday and had decided to hike up this same slope, luckily they were convinced otherwise. An ECT conducted on a similar slope further up Grizzly Gulch resulted in ECTP-15 at 55 cm above the ground (HS = 105 cm), failing on facets from the early season snow.
Comments
Weather today started out warm and dry, but quickly turned into a white-out snow storm around noon accompanied by some thunder and lightning. Snow started out as graupel for the first hour, and winds were strong with very strong gusts from the West and North.
