Comments
Traveled across S->E-> NE slopes predominantly between 10-10.5k'. SE-E facing slopes were solar by 11 am. Due south facing is consolidated but facets and weak structure are widespread and unevenly distributed across the remainder of the compass. It's basically an unconsolidated sugar of varying depths and with a smattering of wind and sun crusts. Total snow depth is generally quite shallow, with just a few inches in consolidated solar areas up to a couple of feet in wind-favored zones. Generally speaking, with the coming load of new snow, the only safe skiing is going to be lower-angle or slopes that are currently brown. I worry that sheltered N facing areas which have a deeper pack of larger facets will be primed for a rip-and-reload series of cycles before they're ever safe.
Photo: Hand pit to ground on E facing 10,3000'. HS ~35 cm, largely fist facets with some 4F faceting sun crusts up top and larger depth-hoar faceting at the ground.
